The Midday Suicide is an iconic image of modernity produced by Nicholas Chistiakov. Sensation of life and death are clearly understood and depicted by the artist in this major work. Artist mixes erotism and naivety of a young woman with the immediate tragedy of a quick death. Sex and death is really closely related in this painting. Contemporary artist uses bright colors in this scene - beach on the background depicted with light greenish-blue and light ocher, and foreground is gray, black, warm white with accents of red. Brushwork is intense and visible. The Midday Suicide brings to a memory existentialist novels by Albert Camus, which undoubtedly influenced the artist.
