Figurative painting can take many forms but it will be always focused on human. Modern and Contemporary art significantly affected the way we see the human in painting. There was strictly naturalist forms of interpretation of human figure in art known in past up to 19th century. Contemporary take does not require physical assemblance rather focusing on the life of the soul and inner states of mind, expressions and feelings. Psychological values of physical entities is more important now rather than their exterior appearance, which is easily captured by photographic media. The painting September 11 is a metaphor for a tragedy occured in 2001. Screaming and exploding figure in the painting resemble ghost of George Bush, the president. Painting executed mostly in grays with an accents of bright orange, silver-white and red. Brushstrokes are extremely visible and textured. Artist uses many layers of transparent paint to produce complex effect on the background. Terror and tragedy in the beginning of 20th century are among most important themes for Nicholas Chistiakov.
