The Black Portrait is an intimate small scale painting. Its colors is limited to complex mix of nuanced black and gray. Artist uses fluid transparent and semi-transparent layers in application of paint. Sometime impasto brushstrokes reveal the highlights. The character of a young girl is based on the personal memories of the artist. For him, the child is like a fragile flower. This painting is about a childhood and about the loss of this time in human life. The face of a girl is melancholic and mournful, despite bearing a signs of a beauty of youth. The small scale of work of art is resounding to its theme. It makes the viewer think about youth, aging and the transience of life.
