Images of storm are quite intriguing for the contemporary artist. The paintings of storm by Nicholas Chistiakov are both - eternal scenes of nature and contemporary images. This effect is achieved because of the artist's contemporary technique and his post-minimal take on compositions. Yet the subject is beyond the time and only consists of the images of various states of water and skies without any sign of human presence. Dark gray, silver, greenish-gray, whites are often dominant in the color schemes. Artist uses blurred effect and smooth brushstrokes to cleanse the overall effect of painting of unnecessary and secondary details. His compositions are well balanced and often represent provocative plays of light and shadow.
